Moving forward

At the beginning of next week, the Dr.'s want to have a one-on-one with our family to talk about transferring Rocky into a facility closer to home. I ask for your prayers with this. This will be a difficult meeting for my mom. The neuro Dr.'s are not the most inspiring people to talk to. This is a time where faith and science come head to head. Because, see, we are believers. And with that we have faith that miracles will continue to happen. I am hoping that God intervenes and will bring light to these Dr.'s lives.
Hope, I have found, is hard to come by when talking with the neuro team. They have very little optimism and tend to be negative in conversation. Please don't get me wrong. I believe Rocky is getting the best care possible. But, I also believe it is because God put those people there on purpose to take care of my dad. And I find it hard to believe that they have not seen miracles happen in a hospital that seems to have so much sadness and darkness. Understandably, it may come with the territory. Gunshot victims, train accident victims and the like are what fill the halls of the trauma unit. I can see why a Dr. would have little hope or become cold.
But, again, I know God has risen people from the dead, healed the sick and helped the blind see. So, where they may not have hope - I pray for them to be filled with it. Where they may not be able to see - may the light of God show them. And where they may not believe -witness Rocky wake up and make believers out of all of them.

Hello,

I've known Rocky since we worked together at Bechtel on the Disney project back in 1991, and considered him a real friend. He was also close to my mom's best friend, Polly. Please e-mail me and let me know where he is. I would like to help him in some way and would like to discuss it with his family.

Thank you,

Aloha Linda,Tina,Nathan,Kevin and all of your extended Ohana,

Your Maui family thinks of you often in this time of need and Tina, I just want you to know that Rocky's picture is almost like a screen saver as I constantly have your blog up, waiting for every little bit of news.
You know Rocky and I go way back including the time when he went from Gerard to Rocky. All of my family back in NJ who also grew up with Rocky (though they still call him Gerard) are all praying for his recovery.
If there is anything we can do just let us know.

With Aloha

We keep praying for Rocky our brother-in-law because we have witnessed a miracle with our son Michael the Angel. Michael was in critical care for over 50 days and the doctors had no hope. We kept praying to God and St. Jude the saint of healing and we finally received a miracle. Michael was healed of MRSA which nearly took his life and stomach adhesions that prevented him from having any food. Thank you LORD and St. Jude hospital staff for bringing Michael back home to us. Michael was born the same year as Kevin our newphew and we pray that the Lord has another miracle for Rocky to wake up and prove all the doctors wrong as Michael did. I really think Rocky can hear us pray for him at his bedside and God is just letting him sleep until all the pain is gone. God Bless the Roccia family and my sister Linda that said so many prayers for my son Michael and came up to the hospital to read the bible to him. Love Mike,Diane,Jenna, and Michael McCaffrey.

Linda, Kevin, Nathan & Tina –
I haven’t added a comment prior to this because I just didn’t know what to say. We have all been praying for Rocky & you all so many, many times every day.
We are trying to do what we can to make things easier for Linda & Kevin @ home (along w/ the Romeros, who are saints). I just wish we could find something to do to help more. If you can think of anything, please do not hesitate to let us know right away.
A little story: When Jessica was born, 5 weeks early, she had some problems that required her to have surgery when she was 4 days old. The night before the surgery, while I sleeping, I was visited by my father who had passed away a year earlier. He told me he was with Jessica & and everything would be alright. Everything was alright. When we moved to La Habra, Jessica was 3 years old & she was always very, very shy. When the neighbors said ‘hi’ to her, most of time she would not answer back. Rocky was the first that she said ‘hi’ to, and the first that she actually talked to and would have a conversation with. That’s just how comfortable he made her feel. (I think that’s how he made anyone feel that ever came in contact with him.) I think of that often, when I think of how kind and generous and easy going Rocky always is, and it always made me feel that Rocky has a close connection with God.
With all the payers, from all over the country, for Rocky’s recovery, we should all hope to be B-B-Qing brats with him again soon.
Tina, I can’t thank you enough for keeping this blog updated. I know it’s got to be extremely difficult.
Please do not hesitate to let us know if there is absolutely anything you would like us to do.
Love always, & non-stop prayers for all of you …………..

To Rocky and all of his family,

Since Laurie and Daniel informed us of Rocky's misfortune, we have been praying daily for him and all of you. Today's blog expressed our sentiments exactly...because you are a believer, that's what it takes to produce miracles. Believing is seeing, in that order. If you are up to reading, a great book on prayer and medicine that I recommend is "Healing Words" by Larry Dossey, M.D. especially in dealing with the neuro-team scientists. Dr. Dossey is the formost medical authority on medicine and prayer. We continue to pray for all of you and hold Rocky in our thoughts as responding to stimuli, coming out of his coma, and daily progressing. We will now include the neuro-team in our prayers.

Love,

Don and Shannon Martindale (Laurie Seron's parents)

I'm not a very wise man; actually I'm not even a very good person. That's never stopped Rocky from talking to me. Rocky has always made time to talk to the guys and myself. Rocky has always shown kindness and respect to everyone that knows him. When Rocky speaks to someone, he speaks with sincerity, he's real.
I'm a believer.... God has worked many miracles in my life, big and small. Believe me, I'm not on the top of any list. Rocky is a damn good man! I know God loves him. If we all continue to pray for Rocky the way he speaks to us with that sincerity, God will give Rocky all the strength and comfort he needs. God is the true "ultimate father". He is not about to turn his back on one of his favorite sons.

just a friend

Linda, Kevin, Tina, Nathan and family,
Having this blog to read everyday is helping all of us cope with Rocky's ordeal.
Thank you Tina, for allowing those of us who can't be by his side to keep our vigil from miles away. We are all keeping track of progress, praying for Rocky's recovery and your Mom's health and continued strength.
Thanks for helping us all stay in touch,
John

Hi Tina,

I tried to leave an earlier comment for you, but it didn't post properly.
I want you to know that I have kept you and your family, expecially your dad, in my prayers and I asked other at my church to also keep Rocky in their prayers. I know this is a difficult time for you and your family, but it also a time when you learn the true strength of your faith and your family bonds. I will continue praying that God brings you the reward of a miracle for your belief in his infinite goodness and wisdom.

With much love and prayers,

Mary Lolli

To all of you,
Tina, thank you for taking the time in these trying moments to keep an update going. We are praying everyday for Rocky and all of you. Yes miracles happen all the time, healing the body takes time. And it sounds as if Rocky is holding his own and fighting through this. Any improvement, no matter how small is a positive at this time. Please accept our love and support, we can't be there in person at this time, but that doesn't mean we aren't there in spirit.
Your other half of the family,
Chris, Mary, MaryAnn and the boys, Ken and Casey Adams.

Much love and blessings to you.

Linda, Nathan, Tina, and Kevin,

Please do not give up hope and stay positive. My brother was in a horrible car accident and technically died twice in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. He had major skull fractures and a traumatic brain injury and was in a coma for two months. The doctors told my mother that he would most likely never wake up and that he was unable to hear anything that we said. My mother brought me to the hospital so that I could see my brother and talk to him before they made a decision to end life support. I was six at the time and started to sing to him a song that I made-up on the spot. His vitals changed while I was singing and the nurses encouraged me to keep singing to him. Two days later he woke up. He had to relearn everything (walk, talk, use the bathroom, etc.) and has some problems still, but he's 32 years old (five at the time of the accident) and perfectly healthy.
Tina, I hope you know that Rocky and your family are constantly on my mind and in my heart. I am here for you anytime that you need me (just a phone call and a two hour trip). Please let me know if I can do anything for you or your family.

Brenda

“Hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” (Romans 5:5)
God’s hope is such a powerful thing that it can keep you going when practically nothing else can. That’s because God’s hope will never fail or let you down, even if everything else does.

Linda and Family,
I just received the blog from my mother, but have been getting the updates by phone. Just wanted to let you know that we have been praying for cousin Gerard back on the East coast. I have not seen him in 20 years but still remember being with him at all the family events of the time. As one of the "baby" cousins, sometimes the older cousins were forced to entertain us. I always remember him allowing us to hang out in his room. Back in the late sixties and early seventies you could imagine how "cool" that was. Just wanted to let you know, out of sight does not mean out of mind. Hope to see you all soon.

Rocky is a very nice guy. For almost ten years that I have been working with LA County Sanitation Districts, there is no single moment that I don't see him smile. It is very comfortable being around with him. I will never forget the very last day, two days prior to his motorcycle accident, that I saw him waving his hand while smiling to us while my friends and I were taking our lunch break in LACSD cafeteria.

His smile is contagious. Even though he is now with the Lord, the picture of a man with good-looking, gentle and forever smiling face is still clear in my mind.

I commend your strength, Linda! More power and pouring love to you, Tina, Nathan, Kevin and the rest of your family.
